Stop Killing Migrant Workers!
Germany: On January 25, a worker died in the oxygen steel plant 1 in Bruckhausen. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the worker was employed by a subcontractor. This accident is part of a long chain of fatal accidents at work. In 2022, the Turkish-Bulgarian temporary worker Refat Süleyman died. Despite “blatant violations of occupational safety regulations”, the public prosecutor’s office closed its proceedings in 2024 and did not bring charges against Thyssenkrupp steel. Thyssenkruppsteel had not made any personal contact with Refat Süleyman’s relatives until the investigation was completed and denied any responsibility. To help prevent further tragedies like that of Refat Süleyman, Stolipinovo has called for an end to cooperation with subcontractors in the steel sector in a petition in Europe. We also demand that responsibility for Refat’s death be consistently accepted.
