Poor work safety for migrant workers on German building sites
Around 45 per cent of construction work fatalities in 2023 were migrant workers. This is an alarmingly high figure, as only around a quarter of construction workers do not have a German passport. (…) Doctors who are called to sites for years report: “The most common cause of serious accidents is falling from scaffolding, from a ladder or from a roof.” In a hospital located in the centre of a metropolitan region, the proportion of heavily injured migrant construction workers is even higher: around 90 percent, the two estimate.
